Stimulating and inhibating factors of drugs consumption in teenagers

Summary/Abstract: Data on the teenagers' perceptions about the drug-use phenomenon among their peers have been extracted from a larger psychosocial inquiry. In that research, drug-use among teenagers in Romania and The Republic of Moldavia, as a unitary phenomenon as well as in comparison have been studied. The authors carried out a psychosocial inquiry on two representative teenager samples (N=713 in Romania and N=760 in Moldavia). Some findings have been listed, ranked, and analyzed here, all of them as seen by the teenagers: stimulating and inhibiting factors, both internal (psychological) and external (social); the dimensions of drug-use in teenagers living in the two countries: frequency of consumption, kinds of drugs used, and categories of teenaged consumers (referring to age subintervals, gender, residential areas, occupational status etc.); finally, key elements in designing a strategy of drug-abuse control, as suggested by the teenagers.
