Summary/Abstract: SME development in Algeria has grown remarkably since 1995, up to now (2014) there are about 700 000 units in the country. An increase is mainly result of public policy incentives for the creation of SMEs. But they still remain fragile, vulnerable and their participation in wealth creation remains weak and some of them are still very small sized enterprises. Their effective development and their contribution to financial growth require a conducive business environment based on private initiatives and strong institutional cohesion. We propose here to make our contribution to understand realities of the business environment of the enterprises in which our entrepreneurs are dealing with, especially their characteristics, advances, weaknesses and opportunities for improvements
