Summary/Abstract: Beata Umubyeyi Mairesse’s work deeply explores the theme of trauma, particularly that linked to the Rwandan genocide and its repercussions across generations. This article focuses on the metaphor of trauma, a key concept in Mairesse’s narratives, and aims to analyze how the traumatic past is transmitted, inscribed, and reactivated within familial and community relationships. Through an analysis of Mairesse’s major works, notably Ejo and Tous tes enfants dispersés, this article demonstrates how Mairesse employs narrative strategies such as silence, fragmented memory and resilience to represent both individual and collective psychological wounds. In doing so, Mairesse’s writing contributes to a broader reflection on how traumatic stories can be expressed and passed on to the public.
