Summary/Abstract: Social changes at the beginning of the 1990's enabled an actualization of the up to that time supressed and very often politically tabooed issues concerning specific ethnic groups, their cultural specifics, their languages and literatures. To such ethnic groups belongs also the Cassubian ethnic group which has been using its own idiom up to the present day. The interest of Slavic studies for the Cassubian language has recently increased. Within this framework, this paper presents an outlineof the genesis and possible solutions of the Cassubian linguistic problem.
