Summary/Abstract: Tiphaine Rolland's study on Jean de La Fontaine's fables and stories, The "Old Shop" of La Fontaine. The Fables, the Tales, and the European Tradition of the Pleasant Story, published in 2020 by Droz Publishing House, aims – and undoubtedly succeeds – to demonstrate the importance of facetious literature for the work of the French author. The compilations of this literature become essential sources for numerous texts published by La Fontaine. Thus, a less explored side of the writer is brought to the forefront, presenting him also as a "facetious" author (p. 22). Rolland's analysis constitutes a fundamental contribution to understanding La Fontaine's work, addressing a perspective that has been insufficiently treated until now.
