Summary/Abstract: In the first three decades of the last century, Germany tries hard to win a good position in the Bulgarian periodicals. That aim is pursued by different means: showing attention to the Bulgarian publications on the side of prominent German statesmen, submitting varied materials for publication in the newspapers, invitations to visit the Third Reich for well known journalists, publishing of well paid advertisements, deliveries of printing presses and paper, contacts with head editors, etc. This policy has its success, due to society’s friendly attitude toward Germany from which many expected decisive break-through in the dismal afterward status quo. In spite of this tempting combination of material and national advantages, Bulgarian journalism in the thirties retains its independent voice and didn’t submit to the direct influence of the Third Reich.
