Summary/Abstract: From the mentioned productions of Suchoň’s Svätopluk, the tendency of theatre creators to express themselves towards national history, to reconsider it and to constantly communicate it to contemporary audiences with up-to-date means of expression is evident. Despite the efforts at innovation, however, the national pathos, which is more or less present in every production, comes to the fore to a large extent. Its degree, however, depends on the overall directorial interpretation of the production. Of course, it is still more present in drama theatre today than in musical theatre.4 However, Slovak opera theatre has also been slowly but surely moving on an imaginary scale from literal representation through metaphor towards the deconstruction of myth over more than six decades. In this way, it gradually follows a world trend that has found its application in theatre theory and practice for several decades.
