Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses the current situation of pupils with migration back-ground in the Polish education system, based on demo-linguistic data from the 2021Census in Poland, as well as information about non-Polish children in Polish schools. Theauthors emphasize the significant increase in the number of non-Polish-speaking studentsin recent years, while highlighting the lack of teachers’ preparedness to work in multilin-gual classrooms. In the second part of the article, existing legal solutions and educational approaches aimed at supporting the learning and social integration of these pupils arediscussed. It particularly focuses on teaching Polish as the language of school educationand on language-sensitive teaching. The article concludes with guidelines for workingwith pupils with lower proficiency in the Polish language, as well as a list of sample mater-ials for teaching Polish and other subjects in general classes that include students withmigration experience, as well as in preparatory classes.
