Summary/Abstract: The article proposes the perspective of life-writing as a critical auto/biographical practice, raising the question of how life-writing tools make it possible to get out of impasses, based on divisions between literature and non/para-literature, fiction and non-fiction, art and folklore, etc. The article combines three lines of the critical tradition: genological, sociological, and anthropological, deepening the reflection on the gesture delineated here of redirecting attention from the level of historical continuity (life-writing as the next evolutionary link in the chain of autobiographical forms, the ‘super-genre’) to the level of meta-consideration of the definition and status of the concept and its application (life-writing as critical practice). The paper also describes specific case studies from “Pamiętniki kobiet z rodzin górniczych” [Memoirs of Women from Mining Families], reflecting on how to profile the tools of literary studies so that they are helpful in a reading that goes beyond hermeneutic interpretation.
