Summary/Abstract: The focus of this article is on the graphic works of Tõnis Vint (1942–2019); they seem atypical, but on closer inspection form a consistent and meaningful thematic line: a multifaceted interpretation of plant motifs, which in the most expressive cases are fantastic. The aim is to map out the graphic compositions associated with this theme and move on to analyses of their meaningmaking and functioning. This article is largely based on empirical visual material and its direct analysis; alongside the written sources, the artworks and their imagery provide important clues for interpretation, as do the conversations between the author and Vint, in which he particularly pointed to playing with his works to achieve some possibilities of plants becoming other forms of life. An important background for the analysis is provided by recent professional discussions revisiting the interpretations of plant motifs in Soviet Estonian graphic art and showing their potential in ecocritical or (eco)feminist art history.
