Summary/Abstract: The authors discuss the negative impact of globalisation on the survival ofminor languages and dialects because translating the most modern realitiesinto them is a cost that modern capital wants to avoid. They explain why eachlanguage, even the most insignificant, is of great value to the entire humancommunity. The extinction of a dialect or language simultaneously means thedisappearance of a culture and a social reality. Linguistic diversity is asnecessary as biological diversity. The authors believe that the cause of thedeath of a language lies precisely in the prejudices of its speakers and thosewho surround them and in objective sociological facts. They prove this withpositive and negative examples of speakers of Cakavica (a regional dialectwithin the Cakavian dialect from Istria). The authors also discuss thepossibilities of affirming the Kajkavian regional dialect in the Croatian school.
