Summary/Abstract: Mental health crises can be the result of contradictions in capitalist labour relations but also of thegain ideology permeating biographies. The pursuit of empowerment as a remedy for these contradic-tions can manifest itself, among other things, in activist trade unions and social attitudes. The aim ofthe text is to attempt to interpret capitalism as an ideological context conducive to the formation ofpsychic crises and to link that crises to the field of wage labour which is characterised by precarity.Capitalism, with its ideology of profit, is a framework for the formation of identities that are some-times fractured (fractured identities) and concerned with its construction in and through work. It isa never-ending process fraught with turns with irreversible effects. Identity and recognition at workhave both a collective and individual side, which are constructed by the social actors. Thus, this ar-ticle attempts to answer the question of when work can become a form of oppressive pattern of (self)realisation, but also, on the other hand, when it can indicate the fractures that are the pursuit of em-powerment through paid work. The text is based on the two case studies of Małgorzata and Marta.
