Summary/Abstract: Jiří Fiala, a prominent figure in Czech literary and cultural studies, celebrated his 80th birthday with a rich legacy of academic and literary contributions. Over four decades, he progressed from an associate professor to a full professor and eventually an emeritus professor at the Department of Czech Studies at Palacký University in Olomouc. Fiala also taught at Masaryk University in Brno and various universities in Poland and Germany. His extensive body of work includes numerous publications in Czech studies, folklore, art history, and historical research, as well as collaborations with other scholars. Notable works include his contributions to the "History of Šternberk" and "Baroque Paintings of the Rectorate Hall of Palacký University." Fiala's achievements earned him the City of Olomouc Award for Literature in 2012 and the Olomouc Region Award for Lifetime Contribution to Culture in 2022. His "Olomouc Pitaval" series, detailing criminal history, became bestsellers, highlighting his ability to engage both academic and popular audiences.
