DISPLACEMENT OF ALBANIANS FROM KOSOVO TO ALBANIA IN THE YEARS 1930-1938

Summary/Abstract: During this period, acts of violence by the Yugoslav state apparatus against Albanians further intensified. Simultaneously, the implementation of agrarian reform was expedited, and numerous projects were devised with the aim of forcibly displacing Albanians and establishing Slavic colonies in their territories. Faced with this severe situation for the Albanians, the Albanian state attempted to assist the emigrants by resettling them in Albania. Evaluating all that has been outlined in this study, it can be asserted that the Albanian state played a valuable role for the Kosovar Albanians. Despite the numerous difficulties and unfavorable conditions faced by the state, it managed to aid the emigrants heading to Albania. Furthermore, through raising awareness of the Albanian issue on the international stage, diplomatic representations of the Albanian state responded in meetings with foreign diplomats, presenting facts about the dire situation of the Albanians and their forced displacement. They urged governments of those countries to exert pressure on the Yugoslav government to cease forced migration and the systematic violence against the Albanian population. Despite all the efforts of the Yugoslav authorities to fully assimilate the Albanian population, careful analysis of statistics and various data published by various Yugoslav structures at the end of these years clearly indicates that the Albanian factor in their territories continued to be dominant.
