Summary/Abstract: The esteemed writer and literary scholar Dr. h.c. Joachim Wittstock, to whom these lines are dedicated, has been known to me since the post-reunification period. I had seen him at readings and German studies conferences and listened to his lectures. I remember exactly when I first spoke to Joachim Wittstock. It was in the spring of 2005 when I was preparing an anthology for the 200th anniversary of Friedrich Schiller’s death (1759–1805) and invited him to contribute. He referred me to his text Schiller im Sinn, which was included in the Schiller commemorative volume. This marked the beginning of my ongoing collaboration with the “undisputed authority of German-language literary life in Romania,” which has now lasted for almost two decades.
