The role of the environment protection Bank JSC in Warsaw in financing investment in the protection of the atmosphere

Summary/Abstract: In Poland the ecological investments financing system is an integrated one. It has permanent and legally guaranteed financial sources of environment protection and is subordinate to priorities of state’s ecological policy. Polish commercial banks that grant credits (incl. preferential), loans and prepare bond issue, are significant participants in the market of ecological investment financing. The bank which specializes in financing investments in the field of atmosphere protection is the Environment Protection Bank JSC (Bank Ochrony Środowiska S.A.) in Warsaw. The article presents the results of studies identifying ways of investment financed by EPB JSC. It also presents the sources of their funding, taking into account co-financing by domestic and foreign special purpose funds. The described results are partial and are a part of a broader research conducted by the author to develop innovative financial instruments that could be used by commercial banks in financing environmental investments. Banks by selecting investment strategy, decide on those that make it possible to achieve high profitability in the lending business. The choice of financial instruments has been made from a wide range of credit products offered to customers of EPB JSC during the global financial crisis.
