Summary/Abstract: Not much has been written about Momcilo Milankov’s literary work, although it is a work of considerable scope, above all of considerable thematic and motivic elements. The paper focuses on three collections of stories by Momcilo Milankov, published in the following order: Odlomci traganja za Majom (1957), Crveni krovovi (1960), and Poto nulo ostrvo (1967). In the first part of the paper, the emphasis is on the poetic frames of Milankov’s prose in the first published collection, while in the second part of the paper, the focus shifts to the similarities and differences recognized in the other two collections. Although recognized as a writer of the city, Momčilo Milankov begins his narrative from more open landscapes, from the world of nature. We tried to consider the meaning of such a creative path and to point out the unique position of Milankov’s hero, i.e. anti-hero. Trapped in a state of permanent unrest, the anti-hero presents a kind of poetics of absurdity in that prose; guilt and fear are the two constants of his world. One of the goals of the work is to present how guilt and fear are reflected in the narrative text and what causes those feelings. In addition, the work pays attention to the motif of silence as a constant in the stories, but also to the time of the action (summer afternoon), which together cre- ate a specific ambience and participate in the construction of the poetics of non-events, boredom, and trickery. The work aims to highlight the importance and modernity of Momčilo Milankov’s prose and to encourage new readings of that author’s work.
