Summary/Abstract: This study analyzes the election for deputies of the Ordinary Public Assembly in Moldavia, in 1847, and examines the political consequences of these electoral confrontations. The firmness of the opposition in various regions, the atmosphere and characteristics of the electoral struggles, the strategies and objectives of the opponents, as well as the subsequent reactions and political outcomes of these elections highlight, in a manner scarcely explored by historiography, the political struggle during the last years of Mihail Sturdza’s reign. The tensions that arose during this election created difficulties for the government in the following period, leading to an escalation of the internal political crisis. In this context, amid the events of 1848, the composition of the Assembly and the abuses during these elections were harshly criticized. Thus, the electoral confrontations of 1847 and the subsequent repressions escalated political tensions, and their analysis offers a new perspective on the power struggles of the period.
