Minsk. The Heritage of the Belarusian Capital

Summary/Abstract: The year of 2017 marked the 950th anniversaryof the first mention of Minsk in written sources.The year of 2018 celebrates the centenary ofMinsk as the capital of Belarus. The article givesa few facts on some of the buildings associatedwith the emergence of the Belarusian statehoodin 1918. The etymology of Minsk is analyzed.Much attention is paid to the city’s architecturalheritage – from ancient times to the present.Some passages from Minsk famous residents’memoirs are quoted.
