Summary/Abstract: The paper analyzes the role and the impact of ICT on recent changes in society and in the economy. The author points out that one of the most important phenomena is immaterialization, that is, turning traditionally material products and services into „information products” or „knowledge products”. According to the author’s argument, this process is increasingly contradicting the relations of production prevailing today. The basically discriminating market model effectively restrains the utilization of goods which are, theoretically, non-additive. Community based access to new products and services appearing in nearly all fields of education, culture, health, and private life, and the production of these services and products in communal forms offer solutions to the problems of many people, actually ensuring equal opportunities. The paper justifies that this is not a Utopian dream but actual reality, by presenting an awakening story about the availability of a once-popular film-strip (and other versions) of „The Prince and the Pauper” in electronic and other formats.
