Summary/Abstract: Up-to-date political strategies elaborated along the lines of economic rationality must regard members of underprivileged groups as potential knowledge carriers and „assets”. At this „macrolevel” a new launching pad for affirmative action is appearing: knowledge asset management(KAM). This approach is reformulating the opportunities and the imperatives of intervention forthe benefit of the social groups concerned. The author of the article, introducing the selected papers f the conference organized in the frames of „Information Society Days”, briefly reviews and comments on the characteristics of the situation of various underprivileged groups (the elderly, expectant mothers and those with babies, disabled people, Romani) which constitute an existentially and intellectually marginalized quarter of society, including children and youth taken care of by the state, approaching them from the perspective of knowledge asset management.
