Summary/Abstract: The "Mykolaychuk OPEN" international film festival in Chernivtsi, now in its third year, gained significant media attention with the appearance of actor and director Viggo Mortensen. The festival showcased three sections: national, international, and out-of-competition programs. The national competition encouraged submissions from students and others, with 27 works categorized under themes such as history, war, family connections, and bodily practices. The winning film in the national competition was "Nuance" by Margaryta Voronova and Oleh Kibalyk, reflecting on teaching practices at the Karpenko-Karyi National University of Theatre, Cinema, and Television in Kyiv. The special prize from AMO Pictures was awarded to Serhii Kulybyshev's drama "Sonechko." Other notable films included "Vitya" by Maksym Susida, "Raising with Height" by Anton Chystiakov and Roman Krasnoshchok, "My Family and Other Animals" by Volodymyr Bakum, and Bogdan Zhelezniak's "Autumn Glissando," which sparked debates about its visual techniques and narrative. The festival also featured films addressing themes of war, such as "Stay" by Iryna Mordyushenko and "Slowly Walking, Smoothly Thinking" by Yurii Yudin. Additionally, the psychological drama "Goal" by Estonian director Dmitri Nassenyk and the story "Rooms We Share" by Nadiia Khatimlyanska were highlighted for their unique perspectives.
