Summary/Abstract: We understand that travellers were intensely interested in the Caucasus in the 19th century. There are many reasons of this interest. Espionage, military mission, scientific research, mountain sports are just some of these reasons. Travellers who came to the Caucasus region paid attention to the ethnic diversity which existed there. In accordance with this diversity, they frequently mentioned the social structure, customs and other information which they saw among the folks there. Northern Caucasus is generally defined as a geography where Circassians lived. But we know that not only the Circassians but also the Turks lived there.
