TRANSLATING SPIRITUAL SPACE-TIME

Summary/Abstract: This essay, along with a selection of translated poems from Kameni spavač, appeared as a postscript to Amila Buturović’s work Stone Speaker: Medieval Tombs, Landscape and Bosnian Identity in the Poetry of Mak Dizdar (2002). It focuses on a specific aspect of communicating Dizdar and of literary translation as inter-cultural communication in general: that of how to communicate a world and an identity to readers whose own world and identity are situated elsewhere.
