Origins and Functioning of the Custody Center in Miastko

Summary/Abstract: The article constitutes the personal account of the author, completed with the institutional monograph on the origins and the functioning of the Custodian Center in Miastko. In fact, the issue under discussion is of a major importance as in Poland, we witnessed the decline of the idea of custody centers. However, in recent times, the tendencies towards their revival may be observed: some new centers have been opened, and the conference on the place of custodian centers in the prevention and resocialization system is scheduled for this spring at the Ministry of Justice. The paper deals with current social problems and the current State policy towards the court custody. Custody centers play a major role in smaller locations where any offer of extracurricular classes for young people is rather modest. Thus, the tendency towards the revival of such centers deserves support.
