Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the opinions of professional custodians working at the District Court in Białystok on the advantages and flaws of their work from the perspective of their seniority of service within the very same territory. The study covered 38 court custodians who were divided into two groups: those covering the cases at the District Court in Białystok for the period up to 10 years, and those working on this territory of judicial competence for more than 10 years. In Poland, as the reforms were taken towards a higher professionalization of custodian service, it was contemplated whether the territorial division of labor should be replaced by the task-based one. It may be argued that the formal establishment of court custodian service teams in 2001 was the preliminary step towards the implementation of such approach. The task-based approach brings both several advantages and difficulties, and requires preparatory efforts towards an extended team working. This paper may be seen as contribution to the discussion on possible difficulties resulting from the territorially based division of cases.
