Summary/Abstract: I am going to discuss “Ivo Andrić – as perceived in Denmark through his books”, but before coming round to that, want to relate a little about my acquaintance with Ivo Andrić and our correspondence in connection with my translation of his works. From 1957 to 1959, I studied what was at that time called Serbo-Croatian at the University in Belgrade. During that period I met Ivo Andrić for the first time through a Danish woman married to a Serbian painter. I still remember coming into his flat in the centre of Belgrade, where he received us very friendly, but also a little reserved. That flat is today a museum dedicated to Andrić.
