Great Gymnasium in Tuzla (1899-1918)

Summary/Abstract: Tuzla is lacking in the remains of material culture, but it is rich in historical names and dates, one of which is the 12th September 1899., opening date of the Great Gymnasium. Tuzla has received a lot more then merely opening of a high school for that time, which can now be measured. The monumental building, what was the Grammar School building was built in 1905, the Institute has worked with an impressive teacher corps, where every year several doctor of philosophical sciences graduated. The scientific basis for the Great Gymnasium allowed education of many advanced people. Teachers and faculty at the high school has left a vivid spiritual and cultural impact on the city and its surroundings. Under the auspices of the Gymnasium youth of various faiths, backgrounds and social status gathered, of which some have surged upward, but in their environment they remained insufficiently noted and recorded. Many people deserve to have their life’s work preserved, and the author of this contribution posthumously, gives mention and appreciation to all of them.
