Summary/Abstract: The article is a speech by Marianna Kijanowska, who, due to illness, was unable to personally accept the Zbigniew Herbert Award. She expresses gratitude to the individuals and institutions that contributed to her receiving the award. Kijanowska emphasizes the profound metaphysical dimension of the award, especially in the context of the war in Ukraine, where experiences are similar to those endured by Herbert. She points to the fragility of language, ethics, and beauty in the face of war, as well as the role of poetry as a means of survival and making sense of chaos. She notes that there is currently intense creative work happening in Ukraine, and that culture is becoming an essential support for people experiencing war. Kijanowska refers to Herbert's legacy and his influence on contemporary Ukrainians, highlighting the importance of memory, ethics, and reflection in the context of war. In conclusion, she thanks Ukraine and its defenders, underscoring the significance of Lviv for both herself and Herbert.
