“DEMOCRACY” VS “BOURGEOISIE”: THE LANGUAGE OF POLITICAL CONFLICT IN MARCH – SEPTEMBER 1917

Summary/Abstract: The authors of the article focus on the language of conflict used by the representatives of various political forces during the political crises of 1917. This issue is addressed for the first time through an analysis of materials from the Olonets Province, which was on the periphery of the revolutionary events. By analyzing the press published in Petrozavodsk, the capital of the province, the study explores the distinctive features of the words used to formalize and structure conflicts, as well as the political contexts surrounding these statements. The authors conclude that although the political struggle in the region did not develop as dramatically as in some other regions, the language of conflict had a significant impact on the political situation, and the rhetoric used by various political authors contributed to the deepening of the multidimensional split within the local community. The analysis of the language of confrontation in 1917 allows us to come closer to understanding the cultural origins of the civil war.
