Summary/Abstract: Young Algerians and Their Relationship with Religion: Between Fundamental Adherence and Contradictions. This study arises from a fundamental question regarding the apparent contradiction between the resurgence of religion in Algeria, the religious behaviors adopted by young people, and their attitudes, which often conflict with the values and norms of Islam. Therefore, the research aims to examine the role and manifestations of religion in young people’s lives, the significance of religious values to them, and whether these values genuinely shape their spiritual and communal lives. In other words, the study seeks to determine whether young people’s religious identity is constructed collectively or individually. A field survey, conducted using a questionnaire and an associative method across Algeria, revealed a strong and widespread attachment to religion among young people, which influences their values and behaviors in all aspects of life. However, their limited religious knowledge, low degree of spirituality, and strong material aspirations lead them to develop their own normative framework, which they apply selectively. As a result, they construct their identity based both on a communal model derived from the enduring values of Islam and on a personal framework shaped by their experiences and aspirations.
