Summary/Abstract: During the period when the watercolor technique was established as an independent art form in England (17th – 18th centuries), the first watercolor artists encountered particular difficulties in obtaining quality materials – papers and paints – with which to carry it out. It was these difficulties that inspired the birth of a completely new industry, the functioning of which was entirely at the service of the artists.
