Summary/Abstract: The relationship between Ukraine and Hungary has been strained since 2017, primarily due to Ukraine’s new education law, which mandates the use of the Ukrainian language in schools. Despite several compromises from Ukraine, including extending the transition period and excluding private schools from the law, tensions have persisted. Hungary’s aggressive stance, including blocking NATO meetings and signing a gas contract with Russia, has exacerbated the situation. The crisis is rooted in deeper issues, such as Hungary’s distribution of passports to ethnic Hungarians in Ukraine and the broader geopolitical context. Russia has exploited these tensions to justify its aggression and undermine European unity. The ongoing conflict highlights the complex interplay of national identity, minority rights, and international politics.
