Summary/Abstract: In the second half of the 19th century, there was a rapid development of the arts in France. The Second Empire found its external brilliance reflected in them. The internal struggles of its government led the country to a national catastrophe during the Franco-Prussian War (G. Fauré himself was a participant in the last battles). This was a period in the history of art when its development was particularly complex and changeable. Music occupied a prominent place in this seething artistic world.
