Summary/Abstract: Some problems of the history have not yet received answers. But sometimes, in order to get the answer, it is necessary to find the right question first. Part of this article is dedicated to find reasonable questions, which can receive logical answers about various issues, like the realistic size of the armies or the payments made to the limitanei. Also the aim of this paper was to highlight the situation of the towns in Scythia Minor province and to approach the economic, cultural and military relationship between the soldiers garrisoned inland or on the Danube limes and the civilian cities. Some steps were already done in the literature, but the economic relationship between civilian and military, commercial contacts and annona militaris remains insufficiently explained. This paper studies the relation between the military presence and the civilian relatives and families in the frontier area, in an attempt of reconstituting some of the puzzles of daily - life at the end of the 6th c AD.
