Summary/Abstract: This article examines the crimes perpetrated by the Russian Federation since the launch of its so-called “special operation”, of which Ukrainian civilians were the first victims. The author reflects on the correct characterization to adopt for such crimes, with regard to the prescriptions of international criminal law and international humanitarian law, by considering the different characteristics of crimes against humanity. The article also explores the challenges of international criminal justice, as well as possible ways of reinforcing the mechanisms of international law.
