Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the history of the development of the prerogatives of the first Roman Emperor Augustus as a high commander in the provinces (proconsul). The process of the acquisition of the supreme power in the state in the hands of Augustus is especially problematical in South-Eastern Europe, where the first emperor undertook political and administrative measures for securing his military power, which is evident on the example of an inscription from Amphipolis.
