Summary/Abstract: Rudolf Otto in the Estonian Intellectual History. This article deals with the reception and impact of Rudolf Otto in the Estonian intellectual history during the last hundred years. It is shown how discussions concerning Otto’s works and views began in the 1920s and have continued all the way until today. The analysis is split into three major eras: the era of independence in the 1920s and 1930s, the era of the Soviet occupation (including authors writing in exile) and the era of regained independence since the early 1990s. It is shown how Otto’s reception and impact changed as well as expanded significantly over the course of the century and how he has gone from an author discussed solely by theologians to someone whose impact, even if often rather indirect, is present within all kinds of discussions, topics and disciplines.
