FREE TRANSPORT TO THE POLLING STATION AS A MEASURE TO INCREASE VOTER TURNOUT (BASED ON THE EXAMPLE OF COMMUNES IN THE ŁÓDŹ VOIVODESHIP)

Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the selected issues pertaining to the recent amendment of the ElectoralCode, which was approved by the Sejm (the first chamber of the Polish parliament) on January26, 2023. The analysis focuses on initiatives aimed at boosting voter participation, such as pro-viding free transportation to polling stations, as well as the practical implementation of ElectoralCode provisions by municipalities in the Łódź Province. It also delves into matters concerning theprinciples of equality and legislative gaps. Despite a surprisingly high voter turnout, the researchreveals that these proposed legal regulations haven’t significantly piqued voters’ interest.
