Summary/Abstract: This study investigates the function of edible electronics (EE) and edible packaging technologies in food safety, health monitoring, and sustainability. EE integrates biological and food sciences to provide new solutions such as consumable sensors, intelligent packaging, and biodegradable materials. Edible packaging emerges as a sustainable option that mitigates the environmental impact of conventional plastics and may incorporate functional elements that enhance food safety. This study thoroughly analysed and classified existing academic research on edible electronics and packaging through qualitative content analysis. Recent articles sourced from academic databases like Web of Science, Scopus, Google Scholar, and PubMed were examined to identify the benefits, application domains, and constraints of EE. EE possesses significant possibilities regarding health monitoring, food safety, and ecological packaging solutions. Intelligent packaging and ingestible sensors that assess food freshness offer substantial benefits to customers and the food sector. The advancement of these technologies will be crucial in the shift towards sustainable and intelligent food systems.
