Summary/Abstract: Otfried Preußler's legacy was celebrated at a bilingual international conference in Liberec, focusing on the trans-cultural and media contexts of his life and work. His father's influence and the socio-political environment shaped Preußler's early literary endeavors, including his controversial first novel, "Erntelager Geyer." The conference highlighted Preußler's evolution from a Nazi-influenced youth to a humanistic children's author, with significant works like "Krabat" reflecting his emancipation from Nazi ideology. Comparative analyses of his works with Czech literature, particularly folk tales, underscored his unique position in German-Czech literary history. The conference also explored Preußler's role as a translator of Czech children's books, his reception in Czechoslovakia, and the broader impact of his works in Eastern Europe.
