Summary/Abstract: On the 27th of September 2021, the hierarchs of the Metropolinate of Cluj, Maramureș and Salaj came together within a working session at the Metropolitan See in Cluj-Napoca. On the agenda there appeared the canonization record of Father Professor Liviu Galaction Munteanu, a martyr to the communist dungeons. The hierarchs approved the local arguments in favour of his canonization in 2025. Father Metropolitan Andrei presided over the session in which participated Bishop Iustin of Maramureș and Satmar, Bishop Petroniu of Salaj, His Grace Father Benedict Bistrițeanul, Vicar-Bishop of the Archdiocese of Vadu, Feleacu and Cluj, and His Grace Father Timotei, Vicar-Bishop of the Diocese of Maramureș and Satmar. Father Liviu Galaction Munteanu was born in 1898 in a family of school- masters of Cristian, in Brașov County, and he studied to be a theologian at ''Andrei Șaguna" High School and at the Theological and Pedagogical Institute in Sibiu. He became a Master of Theology of the University of Cernauti. On the 17th of February 1927, he was ordained a priest by Bishop Nicolae Ivan who also appointed him to be a professor at the Theological Academy in Cluj. Afterwards, he also was the Rector of this institution. In 1958, Bishop Teofil Herineanu, who had a project of casting again the catechization in the Eparchy of Cluj, appointed him to be an administrative vicar. Father Liviu Galaction Munteanu made up a programme for catechizing the children and the adults, which took him in the heed of the Security. On account of it, he was investigated and, in 1959, he was sentenced to eight years imprisonment for "conspiracy against the social order". He was imprisoned in the penitentiaries of Gherla and Aiud. He died on the 8th of March 1961, at Aiud, as a result of the inhumane treatment he had been put to by the communist regime.
