Summary/Abstract: The subject of this paper is the physical characterization of the main protagonist in the short story “Ibika’s House” by Aleksandar Tišma. Although this aspect of the story is less prominent compared to the dominant psychological characterization, it proves to be highly intriguing. The portrayal of Ibika’s physical appearance, reminiscent of an aging brothel worker, is reduced to two or three general bodily characteristics and approximately the same number of casually mentioned body parts, which are present in the narrative as minor and seemingly insignificant details. The paper uncovers the deeper meaning and significance of these brief and generalized descriptions, highlighting and examining the key aspects of physical characterization of the main protagonist and indicating their importance and role in shaping the psychological and (im)moral character of “the mistress of a refined house of love.”
