Summary/Abstract: The reign of Voivode Constantin Brâncoveanu (1688-1714) represents a glorious chapter of prosperity and progress in the history of Wallachia. He was married to Marica, the granddaughter of Antonie Vodă from Popești, who ruled Wallachia between 1669-1672. Her ancestors were: the merchant Mihai grecul (the greek) from Târgșor, Prahova County; Antonie from Popești-Negoiești, and Neagu Postelnicul, the founders of prominent boyar families. Lady Marica Brâncoveanu married her husband at Târgșor Monastery near Ploiești, and the wedding was celebrated with great fast at Filipești, in the palace of Lady Elina Cantacuzino. She became the first woman from Prahova County to become Lady of Wallachia, but she remained a kind, modest, hardworking woman with a strong faith in God. On August 15, 1714, she witnessed the execution of her husband and their four sons in Constantinople. In July 1720, she brought their remains back to the country and reburied them at the Church of St. George the New in Bucharest, where she herself would be laid to rest in 1729.
