Trends in counterfeiting of electronic physical bank cards

Summary/Abstract: This article examines the development of electronic physical bank card forgeries over the last thirty years and the impact of these criminal processes on technology and protection mechanisms and on the organization of police services for the prevention and detection of the crimes discussed. There are three main perspectives on the problems of the criminal activity under discussion, concerning the economic and technical features of genuine electronic physical bank cards, the typical means of counterfeiting and the organization of police counteraction to this anti-social activity. In the first aspect, the importance of these cards for the development of monetary circulation and the market economy is acknowledged, with an emphasis on the continuous drive towards technical evolution in technology. In the second aspect, the development of counterfeiting in the area under consideration is traced through historical analysis, with special attention paid to five essential factors in curbing criminal activity. The third aspect proposes some organizational measures to improve the fight against crimes with electronic payment instruments.
