Summary/Abstract: This article tackles the multiple implications that Gauthier’s theory on being morals by agreement impacted the traditional background of the ethics of virtue. My purpose is to dismantle the clash between morality by agreement and virtue ethics within a postmodern framework, following MacIntyre’s approach. The first part of this analysis blends traditional ethics and business ethics, aiming to explain what a virtuous corporation might mean nowadays. The second part of this article is devoted to the analysis of the equivalence between identity and character in profiling a virtuous modern subject, answering to the following questions: Is character the only moral substance that corporations aim to educate according to their values? Does human character generally change according to the personal interests that arise at a particular time? Do organizations or, better said, organizational cultures affect the character of the subject? Different scenarios of moral dilemmas will be further investigated to explain the tension between identity and character in the education of a moral subject.
