Summary/Abstract: The paper analyzes the concept of social segregation and its problems, explains its causes and territorial distribution in the territory. Territorial differentiation and segregation of different social groups appeared in the city of Panevėžys. Differences in the population’s age, professional composition, and income are becoming more apparent. In various areas of the city of Panevėžys, trends of social deviation are also manifested: in the central part of the city, more criminal acts are recorded, while moving to the outskirts of the city, the number of criminal acts decreases. Areas where urban development is taking place or residential blocks of individual houses have been formed become attractive to residents with high professional status and relatively higher incomes. In order to reduce the social segregation of the population, it is proposed to create a database of personalized demographic and social indicators of the residents of the city of Panevėžys at the level of elderships. The administration of Panevėžys city municipality should also look for measures to reduce income inequality and social exclusion.
