Summary/Abstract: Ferenc Herczeg, born in Versec (Vršac), was the first to introduce the Banat region into Hungarian literature, bringing with him the cheer and concerns of the people of the southern Délvidék region. He passed away seventy years ago. Born on September 22, 1863, as Ferenc Herczog, he would later be known as Ferenc Herczeg from 1890, showcasing the glory of a hardworking life, human integrity, and honourable perseverance throughout his extensive literary career. Proud of his Swabian heritage, traditions, and history, he emphasized in his most successful works that he viewed Hungarian life within a unified Carpathian Basin region, focusing on creative work, homebuilding, and the continuity of nation-building. He cherished memories of his high school studies in Fehértemplom (Bela Crkva). In his recollections, like “The Gates of Life” and “The Waning Moon”, Ferenc Herczeg examined the values of Hungarian history: the era of national struggles, the sacrifices demanded by revolutions, and the numerous blessed moments of construction. In 1837, as the president of the Hungarian Revision League, he expressed his hope for peace in the Danube Basin through revision in his work “Before Sunrise – Thoughts on Greater Hungary”.
