Summary/Abstract: This paper analyzes the possibility of syntactic and postsyntactic movement of object clitics (e.g. me, ih, joj) in Bosnian language to the so-called second position (e.g. Ja ihCL vidim). We assume that object clitics have the status of syntactically independent elements and that their movement to the second position is conditioned by prosodic reasons and occurs in the PF component. The analysis is carried out within the framework of generative grammar, the Minimalist Program (Chomsky 1995; 2000) and the Phase Theory. We pursue the hypothesisthat object clitics are base-generated in the complement position of the verb to which they are thematically related and that they become syntactically inert when the phase domain of the vP phase is transfered to Spell-out. The transfer to Spell-out blocks the possibility of object clitics to be affected by syntactic processes in the next (CP) phase, which supports the hypothesis that the so-called second position of object clitic is realised postsyntactically.
