Summary/Abstract: The large-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine has highlighted the importance of collective memory and its various practices in the processes of state and public security. The importance of cultural and historical practices linked to a shared historical / collective memory, values, or even religion is increasingly recognized: the ‘politics of the past’ and society’s relationship with the past and its respective interpretations are becoming significant for the cohesion of society and the resilience of the state (Kovalov 2022). By introducing the concept of ontological security, this article aims to highlight the role of historical media in state security processes. The concept of historical media in the context of the article is used to define practices that create, maintain, consolidate, or re-create collective memory and through which a particular historical narrative is shaped, such as memorials, monuments, commemorative practices, memorials, etc.
